New Online Platform Makes Patent Applications Even Easier
With the Austrian Patent Office's new filing system, the path to patent protection becomes significantly faster and more efficient.
Good news: Protecting a brilliant idea is now even simpler! Starting July 2025, all patent and utility model submissions to the Austrian Patent Office can be filed and managed centrally through a new online platform.
One System, Many Options
The new platform is a true one-stop shop – it covers everything from national patent applications and provisional applications to fee payments and address changes. European patent applications, international patent applications under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) and collective applications can also be filed via this system in the future. Access is straightforward – either with ID Austria or EPO Single Sign-On (SSO) registration.
This new, browser-based filing system emerged from Europe-wide cooperation between the European Patent Office and several national patent offices, including Austria. The stated goal: better service, higher quality, and greater efficiency in patent filing.

The existing smartcard identification system will continue operating in parallel until the end of August 2025.
