Community designs provide protection throughout the entire EU. There is a difference between a registered and a non-registered Community design. The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) is responsible for application and/or registration of Community designs.
International designs can be applied for at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on the basis of the Hague Agreement concerning the International Deposit of Industrial Designs.
Currently there are more than 81 members of the Hague Agreement, which consist of states and international organizations. Austria is not member of the Hague Agreement. However, the European Union is a member of the Hague Agreement, which enables Austrian applicants to access the Hague System via the EU and to obtain protection in other member states and participating intergovernmental organizations.
