Find out how we make our website accessible to everyone

Accessibility statement

The Austrian Patent Office strives to make its website accessible in accordance with the Federal Act on Accessibility of Federal Websites and Mobile Applications (Web Accessibility Act – WZG).

This accessibility statement applies to www.patentamt.at.

Status of compliance with requirements

This website is largely compliant with Conformity Level AA of the “Web Content Accessibility Guidelines – WCAG 2.2”, subject to the non-compliances and exceptions described below.

Non-accessible content

Many documents, particularly older PDF and Office documents, are not fully accessible.

For example, PDF documents may be incompletely tagged or may lack sufficient structural markup for use with screen readers. As a result, some content may not be accessible, or may only be partially accessible, to users of assistive technologies.

The Austrian Patent Office strives to ensure that newly published documents are made available in an accessible format whenever possible. Existing documents are reviewed and updated as needed.

Preparation of the accessibility statement

This statement was created on June 23, 2026.

The website’s compliance with the Web Accessibility Act (WZG) was assessed via a self-assessment, as well as quality assurance and testing activities conducted during the website relaunch in accordance with the requirements of WCAG 2.2 Conformity Level AA.

If you notice any barriers that prevent you from using our website – problems not described in this statement, or deficiencies regarding compliance with accessibility requirements – please notify us via email at: website[at]patentamt.at
Please describe the issue in as much detail as possible and include the URL of the affected webpage or document.

Enforcement procedures

If you do not receive a satisfactory response via the contact option mentioned above, you may file a complaint with the Complaints Office of the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG). The FFG accepts complaints electronically via the Complaints Office’s contact form.

The FFG reviews complaints to determine whether they pertain to violations of the Web Accessibility Act, particularly failures to comply with accessibility requirements, by the Federal Government or an institution under its jurisdiction.

If the complaint is justified, the FFG must issue recommendations for action to the federal government or the relevant legal entities and propose measures to remedy the existing deficiencies.
