National Award for Patents

The National Award for Patents is Austria’s highest honor for inventions and trademarks – presented by the Ministry of Innovation and the Austrian Patent Office

Our award for groundbreaking inventions and trademarks

The National Award for Patents honors people who create something new and extraordinary. The highest state award for inventions and trademarks is presented every two years by the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Mobility, and Infrastructure in collaboration with the Austrian Patent Office.

Eligible for submission are patents and trademarks that enjoy valid protection in Austria and were granted or registered within a specified period. An independent jury, consisting of renowned experts from business and science, evaluates the submissions based on criteria such as originality, economic relevance, and social significance. In addition to the main categories of Patent and Trademark, each edition features a special prize that highlights a currently relevant topic in the field of innovation.

  • “Behind every innovation are people with courage, creativity, and foresight. They work to make life better for all of us, and their ideas are a key driver of our economy. The National Award for Patents honors precisely these people.”
